Communion: Do You Know What Does It Mean?

Have you heard about Christians eating a small piece of bread and drinking a sip of wine? Have you wondered why they do so? Well, if you have, certainly you aren’t the only one. Here we have explained a little about the tradition of Communion or The Lord’s Supper or Eucharist.
How did the tradition start?
It has been thousands of years since the Church is continuing the practice of communion. As per the tradition, bread is a symbol for Jesus’ body and wine stands for his blood. Well, you must be thinking does this mean we are symbolically eating his body and drinking his blood. Well, it isn’t like that.

Jesus himself started the tradition of communion bread and cup. He wanted his followers to use the tradition to remember his sacrifice and celebrate him. Jesus referred himself as “the bread of our life”. Meaning “we are nourished and fulfilled by him, he is our life, and we are surviving because of Him”.
Church celebrates Jesus by taking communion occasionally or sometimes every day. For church, it is an opportunity to remember and cherish Jesus every time when they gather around the table for food.
Why communion is important?
The tradition of communion is important because it is like a command for each and everyone to follow. It is a step taken every time to be closer to Jesus and to thank him for his sacrifices made for us. By performing communion when we gather for food, we take some time to remember Jesus and believe that he is the one who provides us with everything that we need to survive.
