Understand the Different Varieties of Renders and Finishes

External alterations can be quite a lot of work, but the look of your house gets transformed, dramatically. There are different kinds of renders and finishes available, which can cause confusion. If you want to get more information follow our website.

Important factors to consider

  • Existing substrate
  • Property age
  •  Desired color and finish

Homes are rendered because it becomes impossible to attain suitable, nice-looking and weather-proof finish with brick or stone work.

Exterior finishes include -

  • Painting
  • Cladding
  • Rendering

To render finishes there are traditional and advanced monocouche rendering techniques available. Any kind of render, you choose the basic aspect each render provides is bonding to the wall surface.

Components of renders

  • Binding agent - Provides strength, permeability, and moisture resistance to hold the render. Lime, clay, cement, or gypsum

  • Structural filler - It makes the plaster bulk. Basically, sand is used

  • Water - Activates binding agent

  • Fiber - Improves elastic performance. Plastic mesh, or fiberglass fibers

  •  Additives - Chemicals are added to change renders characteristic. Polymers, silicone, and acrylic

The combination of the components will determine render properties.

Types of render finish

  • Lime render is flexible, breathable, attractive, long life, low maintenance, and eco-friendly. Expensive labor cost is its down side.

  • Cement and sand render are hard, strong, cheap, and easy to apply. High maintenance, rigid and inflexibility is some of its downside.
